Empowering Aboriginal Ranger Programs in Regional Western Australia

At the ABC Foundation, we are dedicated to the development, strategic planning, and management of Aboriginal Ranger Programs in regional Western Australia. Our mission drives us to create sustainable employment opportunities that not only empower local communities but also bring significant economic and environmental benefits.

Sustainable Employment

Sustainable On-Country Employment

Join us in our commitment to sustainable employment for Aboriginal people. Our ranger programs offer vital on-country roles that honour traditional ecological knowledge, empower individuals, and foster a sense of community pride. By connecting Aboriginal people with their land, we create pathways to long-term employment that respects cultural heritage and environmental stewardship.

Cultural Benefits of Caring for Country

Caring for country is deeply rooted in Aboriginal culture. Our programs promote the preservation of traditional practices and cultural heritage, allowing Aboriginal rangers to share their stories while actively engaging in land management. By supporting these initiatives, we are helping to strengthen cultural identity and ensure that the wisdom of the land is passed down through generations.

Economic Advantages in the Land Care Space

Ongoing employment in land care not only offers personal stability but also contributes to the economic vitality of regional communities. By investing in Aboriginal Ranger Programs in partnership with ABC Foundation, we are fostering a new economy focused on sustainable practices. This initiative helps local communities thrive while ensuring that their lands are cared for and maintained, benefiting all communities.

Mentorship and Capacity Building

At ABC Foundation, we understand the importance of support and guidance. We provide comprehensive program management, broader partnership options, and mentoring programs for partners and rangers, ensuring they are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary for success. Our dedicated team works hand in hand with local organisations to build capacity, enhance skillsets, and develop leadership. Together, we can achieve great things for our land and people.

Environmental Benefits through Ranger Programs

Our ranger programs play a crucial role in environmental conservation. By employing Aboriginal rangers, we protect biodiversity, manage fire regimes, safeguard water resources, and restore habitats. These actions not only enhance the health of our ecosystems but also demonstrate the vital role Aboriginal knowledge plays in effective land management.

The ABC Foundation has been a huge support to GACS Ranger Team during our organisational restructure during the last three years.

This support includes regular site visits, which has enabled our Ranger Team strength to build capacity in grant funding applications, assisting to build a strong leadership team with ongoing on country support, financial guidance, and governance.

Amongst GACS Rangers many programmes, ABCF have supported GACS Rangers with our Aboriginal Language program, NAIDOC week Community events, our bush medicine and bush products workshops and the creation of our amazing Bush Tucker Garden.

Our ABC Business partnerships Manager Karen attends our on-country events and Cultural camps and workshops offering assistance and mentorship support.

Knowing we can call them anytime for support and a yarn is integral in the daily running of our core business which builds confidence in our Ranger team and our roles within the organisation, strengthening employment opportunities for our people.” GACS are also proud to announce our Ranger Coordinator Priscilla has won Ranger Coordinator of the year 2024v at the Indigenous Desert Alliance Ranger Conference Uluru 2024”

We thank the ABCF for support with our Ranger programme.
