The ABC Foundation has been selected to receive funding of $2 million in the Carbon Farming Outreach Program grant round.

The organisation has been chosen as a trusted advisor to deliver training and advice to Australian farmers and land managers including First Nations people across Western Australia to increase their knowledge of greenhouse gas emission management, make informed decisions to lower carbon emissions and store carbon and integrate low emissions technologies and practices into their operations.

As one of 5 successful recipients, the ABC Foundation will receive training developed by DCCEEW and the University of Melbourne (via a train-the-trainer model), and will be responsible for engaging with landowners, native title groups and leaseholders across WA, in a series of workshops to support their extension activities.

The objectives of the program are:

  • support farmers and land managers to make decisions to reduce emissions.
  • build capacity of trusted advisers to deliver independent advice.
  • facilitate access to clear, consistent, and culturally appropriate information on carbon farming and low-emissions technologies and practices.

The Carbon Farming Outreach Program is part of the Australian Government’s response to the review of Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs). The review recommended the Government assist rural and remote communities to realise benefits from the ACCU scheme.

Following the announcement Alison Sentence, Managing Director and Project Lead said “We’re really pleased to have been acknowledged as an organisation capable of supporting the training and awareness program and assisting the agriculture and land sector to play its part in Australia’s transition to net zero emissions”.

The intended training delivery is anticipated to commence from the middle of the year over an 18month period. ABC Foundation is currently seeking expressions of interest from landowners, native title groups and leaseholders across WA and will soon commence a communication campaign, for those initially interested please send your contact details through via email to oncountry@abcau.com.au so we can reach out to you as we start to role out this program.
